The parables in this book were first published by Bell and Daddy between 1855 and 1864. The first series of parables was published in 1855, the second in 1857, the third in 1861, and the fourth in 1864. A fifth series of parables, not included in this volume, was published in 1871. Since these stories were first published before 1923, they are in the public domain in the United States. By U.S. law, they entered the public domain 75 years after their first publication.
