This text was prepared by Lisa Ripperton, using as copytext, Old Hungarian Fairy Tales, by Baroness Orczy and illustrated by Montagu Barstow and Baroness Orczy, New York: Dover Publications, Inc. The Dover edition, first published in 1969, is an unabridged and unaltered republication of the work originally published by Dean & Son, Limited, in London in 1895.

Since this book was first published before 1923, it is in the public domain in the United States. By U.S. law, it entered the public domain 75 years after its first publication.

Numerous color illustrations, by Montagu Barstow and Baroness Orczy, are included in the text.
