This text was prepared by Miriam Domermuth, using as copytext, Fairy Stories Every Child Should Know, edited by Kate Douglas Wiggin and Nora Archibald Smith, and illustrated by Elizabeth MacKinstry, published by Doubleday, Doran & Co., Inc. in 1910 for THE PARENTS' INSTITUTE, INC., publishers of "The Parents' Magazine."

It is the fourth volume in the What Every Child Should Know Library. It includes the first 39 stories from The Fairy Ring, originally published in 1906.

Since this book was first published before 1923, it is in the public domain in the United States. By U.S. law, it entered the public domain 75 years after its first publication.

There are 17 black and white illustrations in this edition.
